Technicolour City by goldfishkang Technicolour City by goldfishkang
-- Rebloggable on my Tumblr here --

This turned out way more grungy than I expected... It was supposed to be a sci-fi, futuristic world but the only sci-fi element I remembered to include was the high-tech tower thing in the background, and the rest was just dystopian. This was fun though, it's the first time I had fun painting a city - usually I stick to safer territory like organic natureish stuff.

I think your perspective could use a little work, but not too bad.

Not a problem ^^'
I noticed you said you tend to go more for nature landscapes than cities.
With buildings and such, it helps if you mark out your vanishing point(s depending on what you are going for) first to keep everything in line. Right now you have a vanishing point cluster for each individual structure, which isn't how the human eye sees things. You have to have a vanishing point for the whole urban landscape first, get the basic buildings in to fit that line of sight, and then go back in for the details with the same method.

Hey, thanks so much for the in-depth feedback! Yeah I always had a problem with vanishing point... Still get confused sometimes when the number of points get higher ^^; I'll try to do what you said next time, thanks!!

I like it, it reminds me of an old Square rpg with a little Miyazaki mixed in. Very nice picture.

Ooh yes, I was referencing a lot of the old Japanese/Taiwanese style buildings that also feature heavily in Miyazaki films. Thanks so much! :D
